Crete Public Library - new site at 1515 Forest Ave.

This gallery features photos from all four corners of the block (15th to 16th streets, Grove to Forest avenues) at regular intervals throughout the construction process.

The new Crete Public Library site was formerly home to the city's first modern hospital, completed in the early 1950s. When the new Crete Area Medical Center opened in 2003 on the east edge of Crete, a long-term medical care facility operated in the former hospital building. The City of Crete acquired the property again when residents were moved to a new skilled nursing and long-term facility in town. The old hospital building was demolished in the spring of 2018 and a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new library on Sept. 12.
